It's time for TRACK!!!!
I hope that everyone was able to enjoy their time off, but its time to start up the conditioning for track. Right now we are conditioning Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at the middle school from 4:00 to 5:30. We will have to make some changes week to week about what we are doing on Monday and Tuesday, but the Thursday dates should be fine until mid-February.

If you have questions about the workouts you want to be doing on the other days, please let me know so that I can put those together for you. If you have other questions please come see me or contact me via e-mail. Thanks!

Congratulations on a Great Season!!!!!!

Here is a link to all the information that the state website has on the state meet including video of both the girls and boys races that we are in and all kinds of pictures too!

Congratulations are in order for all of our runners not just yesterday, but the entire season. It would not have been a success without everyone on the team chipping in at one time or another, so thanks to everyone for a great season. Let's talk results.

The girls' team pulled what we think is the best finish ever by a West Jessamine team by placing 12th in Class AA yesterday. The conditions were less than desirable and we still had some wonderful performances. Adrianne Shearer placed 22nd overall to lead the charge and finish off her cross-country career at West High. Arin Gilliland came through next with a strong second half of the race to PR in 21:29 and placing 45th overall. Beth Crist stepped up big as well running her fastest time on the season in 21:57 and placing 67th overall to finish her career in cross-country as well.

Elle Lintemuth is a great story as she finished with a time of 22:23 placing 87th overall. Elle was disappointed with her finish, as she was hoping to run much faster, but failed to notice the almost two minutes she dropped from her performance last year making this feat so very impressive and we are so grateful for all the hard work and commitment the past year to help bring the girls' team to this point.

Julianne Bandy stepped up to run fifth for us yesterday running 23:50 and placing 136th overall. Julianne cut 30 seconds off her best time of the year and really helped lift the team on a nasty day. Annika Stryker and Ashley Neyman ran 24:10 and 24:32 respectively to place 145th and 151st to close out a season of great progress for the women.

Looking at the team results, the girls finished just 11 points out of 10th and just 45 points out of 8th. In a tough race, when lots of teams had things go terribly wrong, we had a great performance and really showed the progress we are making as a team. I am so proud of these ladies and the way they carried themselves today especially and really look forward to the track season and the coming years as we continue to work with them.

As for the boys, there was reason for celebration and an attempt not to play "what if" as they placed 4th as a team, but only 2 points out of 2nd. There will be many things said over the rest of their lives about who could have done what to make the difference, but Jen said it best by noting that there wasn't a single runner on our squad that didn't appear to give everything that they had today. That's all I can ever ask for and I am so proud of the performance today.

Will Stratford led off the boys' with a 5th place finish overall in a time of 16:34. Jarred Brewster came through next with a time of 17:05 in 16th place and Brian Troyer made a big move at the finish to place 23rd in a time of 17:22. Jacob Cox was enormous for us today as he ran a personal best of 18:02, cutting almost a full minute off his best time previously. He placed 54th overall for us and moved past nine runners in the last 200-300 meters to move us into such a close position. Jeff Walker had a tumble about halfway through the race and still got up to run 5th man for us on the day placing 85th overall in 18:29 and round out the scorers. Rutti Eberhard ran a great race as our sixth man just a few seconds back of Jeff in 18:33 placing 90th overall. Josh Pugel rounded out the team today running a 19:25 and placing 154th overall.

It was such an amazing performance that I really am still stunned that it all happened yesterday. The boys achieved what I thought would be a great accomplishment, in improving on our performance from last year and placing 4th. I am so proud of them for doing all the work and giving everything that they had to this team and this program over the past 4 months, but more importantly, for several of the seniors, over the past several years. Without their progressions as runners and their recruiting as students, we wouldn't be nearly as good as we were yesterday and this program will be forever indebted to them for what they have helped make it.

As I woke up this morning, and tried to start the rest of my life back up again, I couldn't help but get excited for the future of our running program as we have done so much to make it better in just my three years here. It was in thinking through this that my wife and I recognized that there was something in the hallway leading up to our apartment, though, and that is when we found four young men sprawled out at the bottom of our stairs on a mattress, trying desperately to appear like they were sleeping. Stunned, and a bit violated, we brought them up and fed them breakfast before sending them on their way. I couldn't help but laugh, though at the impact that this team has made on these kids lives and the possibilities that we have allowed so many of them to consider for the future. I only hope that in the future we can continue to impact lives positively and to encourage more individuals to push themselves to reach their full potential, while allowing them at the same time to enjoy the friendship and camaraderie that too many other sports miss out on.

Have a great offseason! (We'll have workouts for the kids by December for track.)
